Grit and Stripes
Earn your stripes. In a Desk, your level is shown as Stripes, from 1 to 5, and it is built with Grit. Grit comes from trading on TMC and from helping the Desk, never from volume, never from recruiting and never from paying.
What Stripes are
- Stripes are your level in one Desk. You see them as a small chevron and a number next to your name in the Desk chat and in the member list.
- Grit is the score behind them. It adds up each time you do something that counts.
- Every Desk counts on its own. You start at zero when you join, and only what you do after joining counts there. Stripe 3 in one Desk says nothing about another Desk.
- The rules are the same in every Desk. Stripe 3 means the same thing everywhere. Desk owners choose what a level opens, not how it is earned.
- A level never goes down. Once you reach it, you keep it. If you stop trading for 14 days, your badge simply looks paler until you trade again.
The five levels
Each level starts at a total of Grit. The totals add up from the day you joined the Desk.
| Level | Grit needed |
|---|---|
| Stripe 1 | 100 |
| Stripe 2 | 300 |
| Stripe 3 | 800 |
| Stripe 4 | 2,000 |
| Stripe 5 | 5,000 |
Your first trade in a Desk gives you Stripe 1 the same day. After that there are daily limits on every source, so the top level takes weeks of steady trading, not one big day.
How you earn Grit
TMC measures every act itself, and each act is counted once. A trade only counts if it goes through TMC and is at least 0.05 SOL, which keeps out trades with no weight. The size of a trade above that never changes the points: a trade of 0.05 SOL and a trade of 500 SOL give exactly the same Grit.
| Act | Grit | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Your first trade in the Desk | +100 | Once per Desk. |
| A day of trading: at least one trade in the UTC day | +10 | One per day. |
| A streak of trading days | +2 per day of streak | Up to +20 a day. One rest day per week is allowed. Past that, the streak starts again from zero. |
| A followed call: you buy the coin of a Desk callout within 30 minutes, while its author still holds it | +10 | 3 per day. |
| A positive month: a realized result above zero over 30 days, with at least 5 closed trades on 3 coins and no trade missing from your record | +150 | Once per 30 days. |
| A result you share with its receipt, winning or losing | +15 | One per day, and the trade must be from the last 7 days. |
| A reply marked Helpful by the Desk team | +20 | 3 received per day. Each team member can mark 20 a day. |
| Presence: your first message of the day in the Desk | +2 | One per day. |
| A live: a message in the Desk during an event | +10 | One per event. |
- A losing result is worth the same as a winning one. Sharing a closed trade with its receipt is about showing the real record, not about luck.
- A positive month needs the full record. If a trade you made through TMC is missing from the record, the month does not count.
- No Grit while you are muted, and a message removed by moderation takes back the point it gave.
What never counts
These never give Grit, in any Desk, whatever the Desk owner wants.
- Volume, or anything that grows with it.
- The number of trades.
- Referrals, invites and recruiting.
- Buying anything: points, a level or a boost.
- A paid Desk or an upsell. Paying for access gives no Grit, and no level can be bought.
- Likes, reactions and votes from other members.
- A gift from the Desk owner. Nobody can hand out Grit.
- Limited-time bonuses.
What a level opens
Nothing is locked by default. A Desk owner can choose to tie parts of the Desk to a level. A level always means "at least": Stripe 3 also has everything that Stripe 1 and Stripe 2 open.
- Channels. The owner can make a channel readable, or open for posting, from a given Stripe. Such a channel shows as locked, with the level needed and how to reach it, instead of staying hidden. The owner can choose to hide it.
- Direct messages. The owner can ask for a Stripe level before a member can start a new direct message with another member. The Desk team and TMC Support can always be reached, and anyone can answer a conversation that already exists.
- Names. An owner can rename the five levels, for example Rookie or Runner. A name that promises gains is refused.
In a Paid Desk, levels work the same way. See Paid Desks for passes and upsells.
Level-up and the leaderboard
- Level-up. When you reach a new level, a short message appears the next time you open the Desk. There is no sound and no confetti. The owner can also turn off the line announced in the Desk chat.
- Leaderboard. If the owner turns it on, the Desk shows a ranking by Grit over 7 days, 30 days or all time. It shows Grit only, never an amount, a profit or a volume. The 7-day ranking starts from zero each week, so a new member can be first.
Hide my stripes
You can hide your stripes in each Desk. Your badge, your line in the leaderboard, the level-up announcement and the Desk on your public profile are then hidden. The channels you already have access to stay open, and your Grit keeps adding up in the background.
Rules
- Grit has no monetary value. It cannot be bought, sold or transferred, and it never turns into SOL.
- Nothing pays for recruiting. No level, point or unlock depends on how many people you bring.
- No promise of results. A level shows that you trade and take part, not that you win. Nothing here is financial advice from TMC.
- Leaving a Desk keeps your Grit. If you come back, you find it again. If the Desk owner removes you, your Grit in that Desk is erased.
Changes
TMC may adjust the amounts of Grit and the level thresholds as Desks grow. The rules stay the same in every Desk, and a level you already reached is never taken back.
